A JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK MAN IS IN CUSTODY TODAY FOLLOWING A 12-HOUR STANDOFF WITH POLICE OVER THE WEEKEND.  POLICE SAY THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN 28-YEAR OLD NICK BROWN BARRICADED HIMSELF IN A RESIDENCE ON SPRING STREET AFTER A DOMESTIC INCIDENT WITH A 9-YEAR OLD HOSTAGE.  AFTER 12 HOURS OF FAILED NEGOTIATING, POLICE MOVED IN, RESCUED THE CHILD, AND TOOK BROWN INTO CUSTODY.  NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE THEFT OF OVER 50 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM THE WINBURNE FIRE DEPARTMENT.  POLICE SAY THE ALLEGED THEFT HAPPENED OVER A 2-YEAR PERIOD DATING BACK TO 2016.  POLICE HAVE A SUSPECT THEY’RE QUESTIONING, BUT HAVEN’T RELEASED ANY FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THAT PERSON.  THEY SAY THE SUSPECT HAD ACCESS TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT’S BANK ACCOUNT DURING THAT TIME PERIOD.

STATE POLICE IN RIDGWAY ARE INVESTIGATING A BURGLARY IN JONES TOWNSHIP THAT HAPPENED SOMETIME OVER THE PAST WEEK.  POLICE SAY SOMEBODY BROKE INTO A HOME, GARAGE AND CAMPER ON BURNING WELL ROAD AND TOOK A NUMBER OF ITEMS FROM A WEEDVILLE MAN.  THE SUSPECT ALSO DUMPED SOME ITEMS ON THE PROPERTY BEFORE LEAVING.  ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL POLICE.

A MOTORCYCLIST IS RECOVERING FROM INJURIES AFTER A COLLISION WITH A DEER OVER THE WEEKEND IN POTTER COUNTY.  POLICE SAY THE INCIDENT HAPPENED SATURDAY EVENING ON ROUTE 6.  ACCORDING TO REPORTS, THE DRIVER WAS ENTANGLED IN THE GUARDRAIL AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE.  NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS GIVEN.

A TRIAL DATE HAS BEEN SET FOR FORMER BRADFORD CENTRAL CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER AND FORMER BRADFORD PRIEST DAVID POULSON.  JURY SELECTION FOR THE 64-YEAR OLD IS SET TO BEGIN OCTOBER 9TH IN HIS CASE INVOLVING ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULTS INVOLVING BOYS IN JEFFERSON COUNTY.  THERE STILL COULD BE A PLEA AGREEMENT REACHED BETWEEN POULSON AND PROSECUTORS BEFORE THAT DATE.

STUDENTS AT DUBOIS HIGH SCHOOL ARE BACK IN CLASS TODAY FOLLOWING A WEEK OFF DUE TO AIR QUALITY CONCERNS.  THAT, JUST IN TIME FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TO BE CLOSED FOR THE SAME THING.  OFFICIALS WITH THE DUBOIS AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT HAVE CLOSED THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER PRECAUTIONARY TESTING TURNED UP SOME CONCERNS.  CLEANING AND TESTING ARE BOTH UNDERWAY AT THE BUILDING TODAY.

A CORRY MAN HAS DIED AS THE RESULT OF AN INCIDENT IN AUGUST AT HIS CAMP IN MOUNT JEWETT.  KANE STATE POLICE SAY THERE WAS AN EXPOLOSION AT 68-YEAR OLD KENNETH BERNHARD’S CAMP ON AUGUST 9TH, WHICH CAUSED THE STRUCTURE TO COLLAPSE.  BERNHARD WAS TRAPPED INSIDE, AND WAS ABLE TO PULL HIMSELF FROM THE RUBBLE AND SEEK HELP.  HE WAS FLOWN TO A BUFFALO HOSPITAL, WHERE HE SUCCUMBED TO HIS INJURIES YESTERDAY.  THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE EXPLOSION IN AUGUST CONTINUES TODAY.

EVERYONE’S OK AFTER A 2 VEHICLE CRASH IN FOX TOWNSHIP YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.  RIDGWAY STATE POLICE SAY IT HAPPENED ABOUT 4:10 WHEN A TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVEN BY 42-YEAR OLD RICHARD TRIPIODI OF RIDGWAY LOST IT’S DRIVE SHAFT, WHICH CARRIED INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE OF TRAVEL, AND STRUCK A CAR DRIVEN BY 34-YEAR OLD TONY ECKERT OF ST. MARYS.  NOBODY WAS HURT IN THE INCIDENT.

ANOTHER DAY, AND ANOTHER DAY OFF FOR STUDENTS AT DUBOIS HIGH SCHOOL.  YESTERDAY’S LAB TESTS SHOWED MUCH IMPROVEMENT, BUT STILL NOT ENOUGH TO RESUME SCHOOL.  THE FINAL STAGES OF THE REMEDIATION PROCESS ARE UNDERWAY, AND IT’S HOPED THAT CLASSES WILL RESUME SOON.

2 ARE DEAD, INCLUDING AN ELK COUNTY MAN, FOLLOWING A 2-VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN JEFFERSON COUNTY YESTERDAY.  DUBOIS STATE POLICE TELL US THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ABOUT 7:10 LAST EVENING ON ROUTE 219, JUST SOUTH OF BRUBAKER ROAD IN WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP WHEN A JEEP DRIVEN BY 32-YEAR OLD COREY WILLIAMS OF REYNOLDSVILLE CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND STRUCK AN SUV DRIVEN BY 33-YEAR OLD PATRICK STRAUB OF KERSEY.  BOTH WILLIAMS AND STRAUB SUFFERED FATAL INJURIES AND WERE PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE, 2 PASSENGERS IN THE STRAUB VEHICLE WERE TAKEN TO PENN HIGHLANDS HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT.

POLICE IN INDIANA COUNTY ARE STILL INVESTIGATING AN INCIDENT IN WHICH AN 11-YEAR OLD BOY BROUGHT A LOADED GUN TO SCHOOL YESTERDAY.  POLICE SAY THE BOY IS A STUDENT AT ST. BERNARD REGIONAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL AND WHEN HE GOT TO SCHOOL YESTERDAY, HE FELT HIS BACKPACK WAS HEAVIER.  THE BOY FOUND THE GUN IN HIS BACKPACK, LOADED WITH 5 ROUNDS.  THAT GUN HAD BEEN REPORTED MISSING BY THE BOY’S LEGAL GUARDIAN JUST 2 DAYS PRIOR ON SATURDAY.  POLICE SAY THE BOY WAS 100% COOPERATIVE AND ALSO BELIEVE HE DID NOT BRING THE GUN ON PURPOSE.  NO THREATS WERE MADE.  THE INVESTIGATION IS CENTERED ON FINDING OUT HOW THE GUN GOT IN HIS BACKPACK.

STUDENTS AT DUBOIS HIGH SCHOOL ARE ENJOYING ANOTHER DAY OFF TODAY.  THE SCHOOL HAS BEEN CLOSED SINCE LATE LAST WEEK DUE TO AIR QUALITY ISSUES WITHIN THE BUILDING.  PROFESSIONAL CLEANING CREWS ARE FINISHED WITH THEIR WORK, AND NOW THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AWAITS MOLD AND AIR TEST RESULTS FROM A LABORATORY.  THE OTHER BUILDINGS IN THE DISTRICT HAVE NOT BEEN AFFECTED.
